"Janice Jackson is a soprano who seeks contemporary repertoire with a passion...The settings are fiendishly difficult for both singer and pianist. Jackson and Docking navigate these tortuous twists and turns with an apparent ease nonetheless."

| - Nova Scotia is chock-a-block with all manner of traditional songs and stories. They come from different cultures and explore many fascinating themes. This exciting concert will offer a unique blend of Nova Scotian folk music and lore, featuring vocals by soprano Janice Jackson, with Scott Macmillan on guitar, banjo, and electric guitar, and Paul Simons on piano. Many of the songs were collected by Helen Creighton and remind us of our rich and deeply rooted past. From ghost stories to down home recipes, from songs of unrequited love to milling songs, from the tragedy of the mines to wild and wacky word play – these three celebrated musicians join their extraordinary talents to present a thoroughly fresh and unusual approach to Nova Scotia’s rich history of tunes and tales. |
